In January 2017, First Church adopted a new governing structure to streamline decision making. Organized around the mission of the congregation to center on Christ and offer Christ, the new Leadership Board structure includes three areas of focus: worship & nurture, outreach, and resource management. The leaders of each group also meet together with the Lay Leader and the pastor to keep the work of the Leadership Board aligned with the church’s vision.
The Leadership Board meets monthly. The three ministry teams meet simultaneously, after a time of scripture and prayer together, engaging with each other as needed, before coming together as a whole group to summarize their work.
The Leadership Board teams are the strategic planners and developers of ministry, but the whole congregation is responsible for doing the work of the church. Task groups may be organized for specific projects, and committees may develop to maintain ongoing ministries.
